Textile Flowers

Houdini - Cloth Simulation

Textile Flowers is an R&D project developed in Houdini to explore procedural knitting, Vellum simulations, and cloth animation workflows. By combining modeling, simulation, look development, lighting, and Redshift rendering, the project features a collection of abstract botanical forms organically generated from fully art-directable knitted strands. The main challenge was balancing artistic direction with technical complexity by fine-tuning collisions and constraints to ensure stable simulations that preserved the intricate knit, all within a flexible workflow that supported multiple transformations without rebuilding assets from scratch. Reflecting the philosophy that evolution doesn't discard the past, the animation seamlessly morphs from a jellyfish, to a flower, and finally into the Olga Studio logo using the exact same original threads, illustrating that while technology evolves, the foundation of thoughtful design and craftsmanship remains constant.

Behind the Project

Inspired by the softness of textiles and the growth patterns found in nature, Textile Flowers is an experimental project created in Houdini and rendered with Redshift, exploring procedural knitting, Vellum cloth simulations, and organic motion.
More than a technical study, the animation tells a story of transformation. A jellyfish-like organism gradually evolves into a delicate textile flower before finally becoming the Olga Studio "O" logo. Every stage is woven from the same knitted threads, symbolizing continuous evolution while preserving a shared essence.
Just as the forms transform without losing their identity, Olga Studio embraces new technologies, techniques, and creative challenges while remaining grounded in the craftsmanship and attention to detail that define our work.
